The
Omnis Datafile
Repair Wizard
Repair damaged datafiles in your sleep

It's a fact of life that every now and then, databases get corrupted. Bad network cards, bad disk sectors, buggy network software ... all kinds of things can lead to corrupt data. Omnis provides utilities for repairing damaged data, but sometimes the damage is so severe that the only solution is to (cringe!) export and import all your data into a fresh datafile...
Ever pull an all-nighter repairing a corrupted datafile for a client who insisted on zero down-time? Ever ruin a whole weekend babysitting a computer while it exported and imported all the data in an 800MB Omnis Database? And how about those Omnis Connections -- aren't they a joy to reconstruct?

We've been there too, and it's no fun!

That's why we wrote The Omnis Datafile Repair Wizard

Features

  • Repairs any Omnis 7.3.x datafile - including those that rely on Omnis Connections*.
  • Performs a complete, unattended export and import of all data.
  • Wizard-style interface is so easy to use, now end-users who know nothing about Omnis can repair their own datafiles. No coding necessary! (See screenshots below)
  • Scans indexed fields forward and backward in search of the least corrupted indexes, and exports the file using those indexes.
  • Provides many options regarding sizing & segmenting of resulting datafile. Can be used to shrink oversized datafiles known to contain too many free blocks!

*Does not support Omnis connections that span two distinct datafiles using the "external" option on the file format, e.g. where the parent records are in Main.DF1 and the children are in Lookups.DF1.

Here's what people are saying...

"I want to thank you for developing the Omnis Datafile Repair Wizard,
which I've used very happily and am very grateful for. It makes recovery
or just building a clean datafile painless. It's saved me hours and hours.
I wish you well. It still works with Omnis 7 v.3.7.1 and studio datafiles."

"Not that I like to deal with damaged Omnis datafiles, but since I tried your Datafile Wizard, I know that rebuilding a corrupted datafile is just a few clicks away. Moreover, the tool's ability to select the best index to export each file on is a FANTASTIC feature: Congrats!"

-- Philippe Vanden Broeck
    veteran Omnis developer

"Very clever programme indeed, I find it hard enough to know what's happening with my own programme and you come up with a solution that doesn't even know the data structure before hand."

-- Peter Marsh
Omnis Developer, Medical Frontiers, Australia
